50´´

The war in Syria has led to the first withdrawal of seeds from the Svalbard Global Seed Bank. The well-known «doomsday» vault was built on the hillside of a mountain in the Arctic region. Its mission is to guarantee the access to food crops in the case of a global crisis.

This huge underground deposit contains more than 860.000 specimens coming from almost all nations, including Iraq and North Korea.
