| How do you travel? In the era of refugee-ism, there is a rise of «online refugee guides» providing instructions through live podcasts. This video work tries to show a hidden side of the internet. The normally Google-Earth tagged vacation photos of western tourists on yachts are replaced with «boat selfies» refugees have uploaded to Facebook. As the satellite camera glides over the virtual Aegean Sea, the «refugee guide» voice tells of the dangers on the road, and we can look at this internet phenomenon as means of both needed survival tactics and human smuggling at the same time. | ¿Tú cómo viajas? En la era de los refugiados islámicos, hay un auge de «guías online para refugiados» que ofrecen instrucciones a través de podcasts en vivo. Este video intenta mostrar uno de los lados ocultos de Internet. Las fotos de turistas occidentales en yates, normalmente etiquetadas en Google Earth como “de vacaciones”, son reemplazadas por «selfies en pateras» que los refugiados han subido a Facebook. Mientras la cámara por satélite se desliza sobre el Mar Egeo virtual, la voz del «guía de refugiados» habla de los peligros del viaje. Podemos ver en este fenómeno de Internet una táctica de supervivencia necesaria y, al mismo tiempo, una forma de contrabando con vidas humanas. |
