FIRE PIT (BLOCKS)

8´40´´

The video fire pit (blocks) shows the firing process of earth blocks through the traditional method of a fire pit in the landscape. A hole is dug, filled with sawdust and within it the objects are placed to be fired during the course of a night. During the firing process a humming/singing performance took place around midnight. The live sound recording of this ritualistic, performative act is included in the sound sequence of the video.

STATEMENT
The totality of the works constitutes a coherent whole through internal relationships and repetition. When formal concepts are transformed into physical objects, they obtain certain formal properties.By creating formal oppositions a field is constructed in which precise possibilities become substantial. On the one hand this implies infinite formality, on the other hand, concrete objects and processes are extracted from this method. The processes and experiments that make a work specific create certain interpretations, expressive elements or even narratives within the work. It is not my intention to point those out, but rather to look at the consequences of them.
